Course Overview

Mental health is a broad term and is associated with many different conditions which will affect an estimated one in four people at some point throughout life and the causes and challenges can be difficult to understand. Although some people may be more vulnerable that others, everyone has the potential to experience some type of mental health condition at some stage of life.

This training course provides a good introduction to the meaning of mental health and considers a wide range of different mental health related conditions, considering the possible causes (if known) and an overview of the characteristics which people may experience. The course also discusses issues around social attitudes and changing modern perceptions of mental health as well as identifying legislation which provides protection and support.

This training course examines the relationships between stress, depression and anxiety and how this can link into additional associated challenges and mental health conditions, whilst considering ways to support and manage stress.

This training course then focuses specifically on the impact of Schizophrenia, identifies the different recognised types of the condition, how it can be presented, the challenges which people may experience and the impact it can have on individuals.

This training course also considers was of supporting a person who experiences schizophrenia in order to provide a therapeutic and positive support package and considers the need to provide support for professionals who work with individuals when dealing with challenging situations. This is a Level 3 accredited course.

Audience for this course

This Mental Health and Schizophrenia training course is designed for professionals who work with vulnerable children, young people and vulnerable adults and need to provide incident debriefing sessions to colleagues following challenging situations, including supporters, team leaders, managers, education providers, social workers and foster carer agencies.

QCF Units

This Mental Health and Schizophrenia training course is designed to meet the standards outlined in the new Children's Homes (England) Regulations which were introduced on 1st April 2015 and can contribute to outcomes of QCF units including the National Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce and the National Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults).
