Course Overview

Neurodiversity is a way of describing and embracing differences in people, how people think, process information and express emotions. Neurodiversity focuses on reducing stigmas, embracing individuality and creating an inclusive and accepting environment.

This training course will describe the meaning of neurodiversity, how to recognise neurodiversity, discuss the six principles of inclusion, describe how neurodivergence impacts thinking and communication and consider neurodivergent qualities, strengths and approaches to success.

  • 1.1Explain the meaning of neurodiversity and neuroplasticity
  • 1.2Define the principles of accepting difference
  • 1.3Consider misperceptions in understanding neurodiversity
2Understand differences which create neurodiversity including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia
  • 2.1Identify different types of neurodivergence including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia (Developmental Coordination Disorder) and Tourette’s
  • 2.2Identify skills and qualities in autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia (Developmental Coordination Disorder) and Tourette’s
  • 2.3Describe approaches to use in supporting and embracing autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia (Developmental Coordination Disorder) and Tourette’s
3Understand additional factors which can link to neurodiversity including executive functioning, developmental delay and adverse experiences
  • 3.1Identify additional neurodivergence personalities including Cognitive Executive Dysfunction, Misophonia and Stammering
  • 3.2Define implications to health and wellbeing including access to assessment, educational and employment adjustments, bullying, exploitation and victimisation

Availability of this training course

This Neurodiversity awareness training course is available as in-house training at a venue of your own choice throughout the UK. Alternatively, also available remotely via a tutor led course over Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
